Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital: Cast Stone Band Accentuates the Building Exterior
The Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX, is the largest and foremost acute care medical center in South Texas. It offers South Texans a full range of diagnostic and surgical services. The Shoreline Pavilion is the premier facility on the campus, housing many of the region’s most vital and renowned programs such as a Primary Stroke Center, nationally accredited Cancer Center, and a nationally recognized Chest Pain Center.
The designers for the project envisioned stone banding at the top of every level to accent the dark glass. The project had over 12,000 linear feet of band material.
The radius corners gave character to the design of this massive structure. The AAS team developed custom molds with careful detailing using CAD drawings to confirm that cast stone would fit seamlessly without any visually distracting discontinuities. AAS used CNC machining to fabricate the custom molds. The AAS team developed a specific batch mix to match the color for the architectural stone banding.

The team worked with the customer to plan the manufacturing schedule, matching the construction milestones for the building.
Early in the design phase, the AAS team worked actively with the architect and contractor, reviewing the design details and confirming design feasibility. The active collaboration enabled smooth project execution and also a very high-end design aesthetic.
AAS was a single source manufacturer for the project-specific custom fabricated cast stone used in this project.
